Why Misalignment Is Our Greatest Gift
And why we should all embrace the process with open curious arms
Whenever we hear the word misalignment we often view it as the ugly sister, the pain in the arse, the inconvenience of being human.
We’re often encouraged to spend as little time as possible there and re-calibrate at pace to reach our optimal balanced state of being.
If this resonates on any level i’d love to welcome you into my community Becoming Aligned.
Being out of alignment is actually one of the best places you can be, and is one of the greatest gift you will receive. We can’t get to a place of alignment when we haven’t experienced what misalignment feels like. It’s a process, a journey, it’s not a fixed state of being.
When we limit ourselves to try and rush the process or dread it, we often miss the opportunity that’s being presented to us in plain sight.
My take?
Ease into that discomfort and question from a place of curiosity when the dust has settled.
Why wait?
My experience has taught me that when you’re in misalignment it’s actually not that obvious and it can take several days or weeks for you to notice the shift. This was my experience. I recently spent two weeks out of alignment and only realised at that point.
How did I realise I was out of alignment, apart from feeling a little shitty?
I questioned why I felt the way I did, from a place of curiosity. I wanted to understand what the driver was. By bringing awareness to my feelings, I was able to spot the opportunity and course correct.
So what had led me to swinging out of alignment? adopting someone else’s strategy again. I know what was thinking?!
When I first joined Substack my goal was to create a community and in order to do that I needed to increase my visibility. There are 100s of creators who stand by create a note a day, post meaningful comments on other creators notes that genuinely resonate and this will help build your audience.
I did this against my better judgement and learnt a very valuable lesson. For the second time already, I’m not designed to follow other peoples strategy. I spent two weeks producing notes every single day! hunting tirelessly for the famous five note contributions each day.
I soon started to feel like my connection was mechanical and not authentic as I was seeking out rather than responding, which is a key part of being a generator. Not because that’s what Human Design teaches, but because I felt it deep within.
I was producing quality notes (if i do say so myself lol) but it was coming from a place of strategy instead of my lived experience, and this is where the disconnect started. I’d gone from looking at my metric dashboard maybe 2/3 times a day to, more times than I could bare to count, hoping that it would move the needle forward. It didn’t, instead it moved my needle forward on contemplating if I should quit. I was starting to convince myself that I couldn’t turn this into a profitable business and maybe it would always be a passion and not a business. How wild is that?!!
What was the turning point?
Thankfully I snapped out of the dramatics. When I sat with this, I quickly realised that I was behaving like my transference which is Desire rather than innocence. For me having a detached way of seeing the world especially the outcome is how I operate best. This whole situation had really pulled me the other way.
I stopped posting daily, checking dashboards and only commenting on other creators notes, when I felt called too.
What was the result?
Pretty interesting. I received two likes from two separate people who had seen my notes from that crazy two week period of posting none stop. Prior to this my notes got 0 likes. I also gained two new subscribers and followers and my podcast downloads began to increase again.
This is what you called aligned action. When you honour your own rhythm and strategy life flows in a different way.
What was my opportunity?
A reminder that I am my strategy and that I need to self trust even when things feel uncomfortable, or unknown.
An opportunity to enjoy and learn from misalignment rather than fear it.
Take away?
Every time I’ve been in misalignment I’ve always gained something. The more you know doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t find yourself in this space. Remove expectations that you should know better, and replace them with what am I being asked to take from this opportunity? From this place we can be sure of our growth and evolution.
We shouldn’t dread misalignment or want to hurry the process up. If you’re willing and open it will be your greatest teacher and giver. In Human Design we focus on this in our defined and undefined energy centres. Human Design has a positive spin on it. It acknowledges the wisdom of misalignment and what it gives us. It encourages us to use these experiences to connect to our truest sense of self, and in turn our life purpose.
So next time you find your self in misalignment, smile take a breath and get excited for your next breakthrough or re-frame. Your next level of conscious evolution is waiting for you on the other side.
If this resonates on any level i’d love to welcome you into my community Becoming Aligned.
